Message from The President: Q3 2022

Pressing News,
Building a New Roadmap

It’s funny how the universe works sometimes. The PIAG Board of Directors recently decided to make an investment for the future by partnering with a local consulting firm for strategic planning. Through this process, PIAG will develop a new roadmap for staying valuable and relevant for all of you.

Shortly after the decision was made, I was reading Alice in Wonderland to my 9-year-old daughter one evening before bed, and I came across this famous passage:

One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree.

“Which road do I take,” she asked.

“Where do you want to go?” was his response.

“I don’t know,” Alice answered.

“Then,” said the cat, “it doesn’t matter.”

I certainly wasn’t looking for professional guidance in a children’s story, but the point seemed relevant: PIAG needs to decide which are the most important roads to take.

There are plenty of elements to take into consideration from recent challenges (e.g., paper shortages, inflation) to those that have been around for years (e.g., competition from digital, recruiting qualified workers). There are other new dynamics at play too. For the first time since 1954, PIAG is a standalone organization no longer affiliated with a national power like the former Printing Industry Alliance (PIA). And of course, settling into new business norms post pandemic.

The Board will hold strategic planning meetings in August and September. The goal is to have a plan finalized by the end of the year and roll out new activities for the start of 2023.

I look forward to sharing updates with you along the way. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the summer, and I hope to see you all at an upcoming event.

Sincerely,

Jon Krueger
