2011 Skills USA Graphic Communications Championship

The 2011 SkillsUSA Graphic Communications contest includes the following competencies:

• Pre-Press/Digital Workflow
• Offset Press Operations
• Finishing
• Written test
• Oral Assessment - Each contestant must provide a copy of their resume.

Expected Equipment for the Championship
Pre-press - Mac computers, CS4 software which includes InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat
Offset press operations -- Heidelberg Quickmaster PQM 46-2
Folding -- BAUM 714XLT folders

Written Test
The written test is the SkillsUSA workforce readiness test for Graphic Communications. You can view a study guide here. This online test must be completed prior to coming to Kennesaw for the competition. Internet and computer access are not available at Heidelberg.

Timing
The competition will be held on Friday, March 18. Contestants in the graphic communications competition will be given 50 minutes to complete each competency and then a 10 minute break before the next contest begins. Lunch will be provided for participants courtesy of Heidelberg, USA.

Transportation
Transportation to Heidelberg, USA and back will be available for all contestants and for advisors on a first-come, first-served basis as space allows. 

Training
PIAG has developed training resources for teachers to assist in preparing students for the state SkillsUSA competition.

Pre-Contest Onsite Training
PIAG and Heidelberg are also sponsoring a full day onsite training program the day before the competition. On Thursday, March 17 industry representatives will walk contestants through the operation of the offset machine and folder they will use in competition the next day. Transportation will be available for those contestants who need it. Click here for more information on the full-day training session.

Awards
First Place - $1,000 Scholoarship given by PIAG and travel expenses for the student and advisor to the National Competition.
Second Place - $750 Scholoarship given by PIAG
Third Place - $500 Scholarship given by PIAG
