PIAG & PrintED
PrintED is a national accreditation and certification program that started in Georgia. The program is based on industry standards for graphic communications courses of study at the secondary and post-secondary levels. There are currently more than 200 institutions in thirty-one different states committed to the program. PrintED was developed in 1986 by the Printing and Imaging Association of Georgia (PIAG) at the request of the Georgia Department of Education to provide a set of industry skill standards for the state's printing programs. In 1990, Printing Industries of America (PIA) adopted the Georgia program as a national industry-approved accreditation program. The Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAREF) assumed management of PrintED in 2000. In 2004, the program became a certification program when standardized tests were launched.
